Sony Pictures and Australian Penthouse are offering 10 double passes to see Robert Rodriguez’s homage to 70′s grindhouse films, MACHETE, in cinemas from November 11, 2010!
THE TRUTH BEHIND MACHETE
While most movie fans believe MACHETE was born in a now-legendary “fake” trailer conceived by Robert Rodriguez as part of his and Quentin Tarantino’s tribute to B-movies Grindhouse: Planet Terror and Death Proof MACHETE’s inception dates back years before the film’s 2007 release. In the early-1990s, when Rodriguez was prepping his second motion picture Desperado, he thought the time was right for a Latin movie hero—a hero he codenamed “Machete.”
“There weren’t any action movies with a Latin flavor that could play to a broad audience,” Rodriguez explains. “When I watched [director] John Woo’s movies, they made me want to be Asian. Woo and [actor] Chow Yun-Fat’s Hard Boiled and The Killer really inspired me to make films that would create that feeling in the Latin arena.”
THE MOVIE
STARRING: Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan
MACHETE carries on the grindhouse ethos of Planet Terror and centers around the unstoppable brutality of Machete (Trejo), the wronged and righteous man with nothing to lose. Hardened by a life on the merciless streets of Mexico and refined to a sharp point at the police academy, Machete is—by the time his gift for violence is brought to the fore—what one character in the film describes as, “CIA, FBI and DEA all rolled into one mean burrito.”
His quest here is simple, and bloody: to destroy those who have double-crossed him. The result is hyper-violent, quirky and dripping with B-movie cult potential.
