Thanks to EMI, Australian Penthouse will give 5 winners a 2-CD EMI pack consisting of Ben Harper’s Give Till It’s Gone and Simply Red’s Farewell: Live In Sydney.
BEN HARPER – Give Till It’s Gone
On Give Till It’s Gone, Ben Harper’s first solo record since 2006, the focus lies with the disparity between who Harper is and who he hopes to become. Reaching deep within, he discovers there are no easy answers, but implores us to go the distance with him on this journey. While its songs are highly personal, Give Till It’s Gone illuminates the universal struggle to find meaning and fully engage with life and one another. We may pass through a dark night of the soul, but Harper reminds us that giving up is not an option.
The album was recorded at the Los Angeles studio of Jackson Browne, who appears on the record. The album also features two tracks co-written with Ringo Starr.
SIMPLY RED – Farewell: Live in Sydney
In 2010, Mick Hucknall drew the final curtain for Simply Red. Farewell is the recording of the show they played in Sydney during the final world tour.
With the impressive Sydney Opera House as a backdrop, Simply Red were in best form at this open air show on 13 October 2010. Accompanied by Ian Kirkham (keyboards, sax), Kenji Suzuki (guitar), Dave Clayton (keyboards), Pete Lewinson (drums), Steve Lewinson (bass), and Kevin Robinson (trumpet, flute), Mick Hucknall sang his way masterfully through a repertoire of top hits and evergreens selected from Simply Red’s ten studio albums. From Money’s Too Tight (To Mention), which in 1985 kick-started their career, to the ultimate soul hymn Holding Back The Years from 1986, the fabulous Sydney set left no wishes unfulfilled for the fans.
