Are you two lovely ladies friends outside of work?
Kayden: Friends? We’re lovers. And we’re double Pets! Has that ever happened before?

Not recently. You’re both avid Twitter users. What’s it like, living out your personal life on public social networks?
Kayden: It’s different. In the past, celebrities were accessible only through media, and their portrayal was exactly what they wanted it to be. It was very smooth. Now, we’re available directly to the public and there’s no editing. We make typos, we say things that not everyone agrees with.
Riley: They get to know us for who we really are.

What boundaries should exist within this new era of direct access?
Kayden: For me, it’s like this: I’ve agreed to give you this glimpse into my sex life. I’ve not agreed to talk dirty to you, I’ve not agreed to give you any other sexual gratification. When fans want to cross that line and make something personally sexual, I get angry. Same goes for journalists.

What about the fans who want to know you on a personal, platonic level?
Riley: Personally, I’ll do anything for my fans. But I draw the line at my family. Don’t ever ask me about my family or my childhood. That’s my thing.

Does that apply to most porn stars?
Kayden: Yes. I mean, unless someone invites you into that, but generally speaking most people won’t. Those issues are sensitive for everyone, though, not just people in porn.
Riley: Yeah, I hate generalisations about people in porn. I hate them. For the record, not everyone who’s had a bad childhood becomes a porn star. People with bad childhoods become lawyers, they become doctors…
Kayden: People want to justify it. They want to believe that this is bad. They want to believe there’s a reason that we’re doing this. They have to somehow fulfil the idea they have of what porn is.

We’ve always been interested in why someone gets into porn, but only because most people find it difficult to have sex with the lights on. Porn stars can film and publish it.
Kayden: You know, I can still have a problem standing naked before a person I’m sleeping with. You care more about what they think, you feel more sensitive if the judgment matters. When I was a stripper, I had a boyfriend for three years and I still wouldn’t have sex with the lights on. I was self-conscious. I was really, really self-conscious.

How about you, Riley?
Riley: I don’t get naked… I’m such a loser, when I’m not working, I’m at home, sitting in my apartment by myself, or going to the gym. That’s all I do. I’m a loner. That’s all I want to be. If I need to get off, I can masturbate.
